Lots of places, including FGN Online, Stomped and GameSpy.com are reporting today that Barking Dog Studios, the developers of Homeworld: Cataclysm will be announcing in two weeks that their next game will be a tactical shooter and will be published by Crave Entertainment. In and of itself, this is not news, as it was revealed back in September that they were working on tactical FPS (story). What is, however, mildly newsworthy, are the scraps of information available at each of the three sites listed above, which suggest that the game will be squad based, and utilize real-world locations.

Quake III Arena Review
3D Gaming Daily has posted their review of Quake III Arena for the Dreamcast. They have given Sega's much anticipated port of the PC FPS title a rating of 4.5/5. Here's a snip:
"Of the three options presented the player I found the multiplayer options far more satisfying. The artificial intelligence of the bots in the single player modes are often quite linear, and while no doubt technologically impressive, are simply not fun to play against. I found this especially true while using the Dreamcast controller because the bots have unbelievable accuracy with the Rail Gun on higher difficulty levels, a level of accuracy unattainable with the joystick on the controller. On the internet and with friends you are more likely to get an overall appealing challenge." |

There are few details on the game, except that it is being developed by Pivotal Games, a company made up of former members of Warzone 2100 creators Pumpkin Studios (which folded last year), that it will be released on PC and next generation consoles in 2002, and uses the same technology as The Great Escape, a game based on the classic 1963 war movie that is itself headed for consoles only. However, visuals from Conflict: Desert Storm are already available by way of the first 16 screenshots and a movie trailer, which offers half a minute of in-game footage in self-running Bink format.

3dfx To Still Create Graphics Cards
CNET Gamecenter has posted an interview with 3dfx's Bubba Wolford regarding the revelation that the Voodoo 5 6000 won't be sold to consumers and 3dfx selling their manufacturing plant (see press release). It mentions that they plan on licensing the Voodoo 3 to asian manufacturers for use in those markets and that they are not going to license their tech to other companies to make boards for the U.S. They apparently will still have 3dfx branded graphic boards produced, just not manufactured in a plant they own. Since the PC version is currently going through final candidates, and the Mac version only slightly behind, it would appear that it those versions are being delayed in order to allow for a simultaneous debut on all three platforms.
